Jaime Ramirez Dead in Boyle Heights Bicycle Accident
BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA (June 4, 2019) – A bicyclist died in an accident with a big rig on Lorena Street on May 31.
To begin, state officials responded to the accident on Lorena Street and 8th Street around 9:30 p.m.
Authorities are currently searching for the driver of a 40-foot box trailer who escaped the scene. According to reports, 24-year-old Jaime Ramirez of Maywood suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
Officials revealed that Ramirez rode his bike along Lorena Street in between two traffic lanes just before the collision. He was allegedly struck by the trailer’s tires, and found trapped underneath the big rig.
Police also added that the truck driver did not stop to aid Ramirez. Medical responders eventually pronounced him dead on scene due to the impact of the collision.
Meanwhile, a witness tried to chase the truck and took a picture of the trailer’s license plate. A surveillance camera also captured the incident.
Furthermore, authorities described the truck and trailer as all-white, including white rims, with a sleeper cab and California license plate 4MY4587.
Anyone with information that can lead to the capture and conviction of the drivers responsible for the crash will receive a $50,000 reward.
