Bicyclist Injured after Colliding with Truck at Magnolia Street and Imperial Avenue
GARDEN GROVE, CA (June 7, 2018) – On Thursday afternoon, a bicyclist was seriously injured in a truck collision on Magnolia Street.
The incident occurred at around 2:19 PM at the intersection of Magnolia Street and Imperial Avenue. The male rider of a 10-speed bike, described to be in his mid to late 20s or early 30s, was wearing street clothes when came out of a residential neighborhood. The cyclist did not stop at a stop sign before turning into traffic.
A trash truck was in the lane closest to the sidewalk as the bicyclist made a turn, and crashed into it. Several witnesses stated that the trash truck driver could not have avoided the crash with the bicycle. The cyclist, who was bleeding from his ears, was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was confirmed to be in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
Police stated that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and went into the path of the truck. Police could not identify him or where he came from, and whether he was homeless. The driver of the trash truck was not cited, and alcohol or drugs were not considered to be involved in the incident.
