57-Year-Old Female Bicyclist Hospitalized after Crash on State Route 56 in San Diego
San Diego, CA (May 19, 2022) – Wednesday evening, a 57-year-old woman sustained injuries in a crash on State Route 56.
The crash happened at around 5:25 p.m. on May 18 near the bottom of the exit from east state Route 56 to Camino Del Sur, in a crossing for the SR-56 Bike Trail.
San Diego Police said an 80-year-old man behind the wheel of a Volvo XC90 SUV, was turning right from the freeway exit onto Camino Del Sur when he struck the bicyclist.
The rider was in a crosswalk dedicated to a protected bike trail.
As a result, the victim sustained serious injuries that included fractures to her pelvis and fifth lumbar vertebrae.
No other information is immediately available.
Further investigation is ongoing.
