According to the Santa Clara County sheriff’s investigators, the incident happened at about 8:50 AM. The victim attempted to cross the light trail track by going around a closed gate. There, a train struck him as it was pulling into the Diridon Station stop.
Emergency responders successfully freed the bicyclist from under the train. Then, they rushed him to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The county sheriff transit patrol will investigate the incident. Additional information will be released to the public once it becomes available.
Do not attempt to go around a closed safety gate to cross the train tracks. Trains cannot swerve out of the way with limited options to avoid a collision. Heed warning signs and bells, and do not try to beat an oncoming train.
