37-Year-Old Bicycle Rider Struck by Vehicle near Hilltop Drive
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 22, 2018) – On Sunday evening, a 37-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision on 47th Street. His name and place of residence were not immediately released to the public.
A witness reported hearing screeching tires and the sound of a crash around 7:30 PM near Hilltop Drive. According to reports, the driver was heading south on 47th while the biker was riding north. The two crashed into each other, causing the bicyclist to be ejected onto the ground. The driver continued driving southbound on 47th Street, leaving the injured man in the road.
Responding officers and medics arrived at the scene to find the injured bicyclist with a yellow OFO rental bicycle. He was transported to a local hospital with a broken jaw and major head injuries. His wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, but there is no update on his current medical condition.
Officials continue to search for the hit-and-run driver and the vehicle involved in the incident. The street was closed between Hilltop and C Street during the investigation. No additional inofmration has been disclosed to the public at this time.
