Bicycle Rider Killed after Fresno Hit-and-Run Crash on Audubon Drive
FRESNO, CA (July 5, 2019) – A bicyclist in his late 60s sustained injuries in a hit-and-run accident in northeast Fresno on Tuesday, July 2.
According to Officer Chad Soares, just after 2:30 p.m., the cyclist was westbound in the bike lane on Audubon Drive moving toward Quincy Avenue. Then a newer-model white GMC Yukon, possibly with an aftermarket chrome grill, struck him. The driver tried to pass another vehicle in the right lane when he struck the bicyclist.
The impact of the crash knocked the bicyclist down. He sustained a fractured pelvis and other injuries, said Soare. Emergency responders brought him to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Witnesses told police that after hitting the bicyclist the driver stopped but never got out of his vehicle and left the scene.
Soares stated that there could be possible damage to the front of the Yukon.
If you ever get involved in a traffic accident, do not attempt to flee the scene. Face the consequences of your actions and wait for the arrival of the police. By following driving laws and being careful when behind the wheel, you can keep yourself and others around you safe.
