SAN DIEGO, CA (March 10, 2021) – Tuesday morning, a bicyclist suffered injuries in a crash on Main Avenue near Mapleview Street.
 
At about 8:20 a.m., a bicyclist tried to avoid a garbage truck on Main Avenue near Mapleview Street. Then, he went in front of the work truck.
 
However, a hook on an equipment rack attached to the 2017 Chevrolet truck went into the right side of decided whether to unhook him or cut off the hook. Eventually, firefighters lifted the bicyclist off the hook.
 
Deputies added that the bicyclist was impaled near his ear. Then, responders took him to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
“He’s lucky right now,” California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow revealed. “I haven’t seen that in almost 20 years of doing this job. I haven’t seen someone impaled like that and actually still be conscious, awake, oriented, alive, so definitely a strange one.”
