19-Year-Old Biker Hospitalized after Struck by SUV at Intersection with Broadway
LEMONGROVE, CA (July 9, 2018) – A teenage bicyclist was injured in a collision on Massachusetts Avenue, late Monday night. His identity was not immediately released to the public.
The accident took place around 10:20 PM near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Broadway, just by the Lemon Grove Square Shopping Center.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt Jorge Dueno, a black Toyota SUV driven by a 60-year-old woman, made a right turn from Broadway onto southbound Massachusetts. There, a bike crashed into the front left side of the vehicle.
The driver parked the car nearby and exited the vehicle to where the injured man was in the road. She protected him by directing traffic away from him until first responders came. Emergency responders transferred the 19-year-old bicyclist to a nearby hospital with major head trauma and other life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
Officials continue to investigate the accident, but drugs and alcohol are not considered to be contributing factors. No additional information has been disclosed at this time.
