53-Year-Old Man Injured in Car Accident in Madera Canyon
MADERA CANYON, AZ (September 5, 2019) – A bicyclist was critically injured following a car crash in Madera Canyon on Monday, September 2.
According to Green Valley Fire District spokesman L.T. Pratt, the accident happened just south of the Santa Rita Lodge.
Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada said that at around 8 a.m., the bicyclist crashed with a vehicle while going downhill at a fast rate of speed. The 53-year-old victim from Sahuarita suffered severe head trauma. He had his helmet on at the time of the incident, the sheriff said.
Paramedics transported him by ambulance to the helibase at the foot of the canyon. After that, they airlifted the victim to Banner University Medical Center Tucson in critical condition.
Estrada stated that investigators believe he is still on life support. There had been no citations or arrests. The investigation is still ongoing.
Bicyclists and motorcyclists must always keep a safe distance from other vehicles when they are driving. Big vehicles, on the other hand, must pay attention and consider small vehicles like motorcycles and bicycles.
