Bicyclist Hurt after Cathedral City Car Crash on Palm Canyon Drive
CATHEDRAL CITY, CA (October 30, 2019) – A bicyclist suffered critical injuries after a car crash on Palm Canyon Drive on Tuesday, October 29.
The accident happened at around 7:40 a.m. on East Palm Canyon Drive at Allen Drive. Cathedral City police Cmdr. Julio Luna said that the bicyclist was in a crosswalk. Then an eastbound Jeep SUV occupied by two people struck the male bicyclist.
The bicyclist was briefly on the SUV’s hood before they all came to rest several yards east of the intersection.
Reports describe the bicyclist as a Cathedral City man in his mid-50s. Paramedics rushed him to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment. His identity was not yet released.
Luna said investigators are trying to find out who had the right of way and whether sunlight blocked the driver’s view.
The SUV’s occupants – a woman and her young daughter – stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police.
Police closed Palm Canyon between Date Palm and Cathedral Canyon drives. Traffic was detoured around the scene.
