Bicyclist Struck and Injured near Palm Avenue

 
HEMET, CA (April 2, 2019) – An unidentified bicyclist was hospitalized after a collision on Florida Avenue, early Saturday evening.
 
The accident happened just east of Palm Avenue, in front of Hemet’s Days Inn. Dispatchers received calls in the area around 6:50 p.m.
 
According to reports, the bicyclist darted into traffic and was struck by a red Chevy Camaro. The driver of the Chevy later told officers that he had no time to avoid striking him.
 
Witness calls reported the bicyclist was down in the roadway and bleeding heavily from the head. Fire and rescue personnel arrived soon after. His damaged beach cruiser was still lying in the roadway.
 
The male victim was found alert and sitting on the sidewalk upon medics arrival. Officers immediately began treating the injured rider, and bandaging his bloody head.
 
Paramedics evaluated and treated the bicyclist for a minor head injury. He was eventually transported to Hemet Valley Hospital for further treatment. There has been no update on his current condition.
 
Furthermore, the driver of the Chevy remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. His vehicle sustained minor front-end and windshield damage, as well as a flat tire due to the impact.
 
Hemet PD’s investigation is still currently ongoing to determine more details. The driver of the car was not cited or charged. Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the accident.
