1 Hospitalized after Boyle Heights Bicycle Accident
BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA (August 28, 2019) – A person sustained severe injuries in a bicycle accident on Whittier Boulevard on August 22.
The hit-and-run crash occurred at about 10:20 p.m. on Whittier Boulevard just east of Calzona Street. Responders transported the bicyclist to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
A video showed that the impact threw the bicyclist’s body. The truck went on driving while his torso did a backflip just above the vehicle’s hood. The rider’s body crashed into the ground while the truck fled the scene.
Authorities described the truck as a white Chevrolet or GMC full-size pickup truck, a model from between 2011 and 2018.
The truck has a “red front bumper lower valance air deflector, black rims, a black bed cover, possible custom white bumper.” LAPD added that the headlights and tail lights are possibly also aftermarket.
Tipsters who can provide information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case will receive a reward of up to $50,000.
