Teenager Injured in Taft Auto Accident on Sixth Street and Kern Street
TAFT, CA (December 12, 2021) – Sunday night, authorities arrested Bernardino Agustin Nava after a hit-and-run crash on Sixth Street and Kern Street.
The incident that seriously injured a teenager occurred at around 8:00 p.m. Moreover, it happened on Sixth Street and Kern Street.
According to Taft Police Sgt. Corey Beilby, the suspect failed to yield at a stop sign. Then, the vehicle crashed into the driver’s side of a sedan, trapping the victim inside. Thus, firefighters responders and freed the teenager.
Meanwhile, the authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Bernardino Agustin Nava of Maricopa.
Beilby confirmed that the victim drove his Chevrolet Impala east on Kern Street and stopped at the stop sign. Then, the victim went into the intersection where the crash happened.
Meanwhile, some witnesses said that the suspect vehicle, a Ford Explorer, drove south on Sixth Street. Then, the vehicle “blew through the stop sign.” Afterward, Nava and two or three other people inside his vehicle fled the scene.
Then, some bystanders chased Nava and detained him until officers came.
Meanwhile, an air ambulance transported the 17-year-old male victim to Kern Medical for treatment of major injuries.
Aside from two felony counts, authorities charged Nava with failure to stop at a stop sign, driving without a license, and not having proof of insurance.
