3-Vehicle Crash on Railroad Canyon Road Kills 2 Lake Elsinore Sisters and Leaves their Mother in Critical Condition
MENIFEE, CA (January 24, 2020) – Two women were killed following a three-vehicle crash Friday evening in Menifee.
The crash happened just before 10:00 p.m. on Railroad Canyon Road near Newport Road.
According to CHP officials, a speeding motorist plowed into the back of another car. The impact sent one of the vehicles over a center median, where it then smashed into a third vehicle carrying three women.
As a result, two of the three women in the third vehicle were killed. The first victim, identified as 57-year-old Benita Heyden, died at the scene. The second victim, 58-year-old Tina Slatten was pronounced dead at Riverside University Health System Medical Center.
Heyden and Slatten were sisters. They were returning home from their weekly bingo game with their mother, Sharon Waldman.
Waldman is currently in critical condition at Inland Valley Medical Center. She is suffering from internal bleeding as well as two broken legs and two broken ankles, according to the GoFundMe post.
Officials are still investigating the crash to determine liability.
