Two Brothers Die in Early Morning Hit-and-Run Crash on San Pascual Avenue
HIGHLAND PARK, CA (May 5, 2019) – Two brothers were killed in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning in Highland Park, police said.
The fatal crash took place at 1:15 a.m. when a white Chevy Silverado pickup truck slammed into a white Ford Fusion in the 700 block of North San Pascual Avenue.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the Silverado was driving at speeds of more than 80 mph on residential streets before it struck the sedan and other parked cars.
Brothers Jesse Felix Zuniga, 19, and Benigno Felix Zuniga, 25, were inside the Ford and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The smashed Silverado was abandoned at the scene. Two people were seen fleeing on foot, but the nighttime video remains too grainy to identify them.
The driver is expected to face felony hit-and-run charges. The passenger at this point is not facing any charges but police are hoping that person will step forward and provide information to help identify the driver.
The city is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information can call 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
A GoFundMe page has been created in honor of the deceased brothers.
No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the loved ones and friends of Benigno and Jesse Zuniga.
