Benedo Alfaro Dies in Head-On Collision on Highway 33 [Mendota, CA]

Mendota, CA (October 3, 2022) On Monday morning, 22-year-old Benedo Alfaro of Mendota died after a head-on collision on Highway 33.

Reports say that the suspected DUI crash happened before 3 a.m. on Highway 33 at Bass Avenue.

Authorities say that 27-year-old Gilbert Castro of Mendota was on a southbound 2016 Chevrolet Equinox collided with Alfaro on a 2009 Toyota Corolla.

Furthermore, officials say that Castro allowed his SUV to drift into the northbound lanes of the highway, right into the path of the Toyota.

The collision killed Alfaro, while Castro suffered minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained front damage.

Authorities arrested Gilbert Castro on suspicion of drunken driving.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified Alfaro Monday afternoon.
