5 People Hospitalized in Austin Pedestrian Accident on Bastrop Highway near Highway 71
AUSTIN, TX (October 29, 2024) – Sunday night, Bayron Josue Hernandez-Zelaya was arrested after a pedestrian crash on Bastrop Highway.
The incident happened at around 7:55 p.m. in the 1200 block of Bastrop Highway northbound, near Highway 71.
According to the Austin Police Department, a vehicle lost control and crashed for still unknown reasons. Then, a second vehicle collided with a third vehicle, pushing the second vehicle to strike a child from the first vehicle who was talking with an officer.
Moreover, responders transported five people, including two children, to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Furthermore, officers arrested the driver of the third vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Hernandez-Zelaya, for Driving While Intoxicated charges.
At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
Due to limited information, the Austin Police Department continued to investigate the crash.
