Bastian Michel is Recovering After Crash in San Jose

San Jose, CA (June 28, 2024) – On Friday, a special mass was held to pray for a young boy, Bastian Michel, who suffered severe injuries in a San Jose traffic accident. 

Organized by St. Martin of Tours, Saint Francis High School, and Santa Clara University, the event supported seven-year-old “Bazzy.” Despite a tough week, the family felt uplifted by the community.

Father Saju Joseph urged young attendees to pray for Bazzy, saying, “Sometimes that is all you can do.” Bazzy was hit by a car while walking home from tutoring on Monday. 

The driver stayed at the scene, and the family awaits the investigation’s outcome.

Bazzy’s grandmother, Gaita Mompoint, panicked upon learning he was being taken to a trauma center. He sustained life-threatening injuries, including collapsed lungs, a fractured skull, and internal injuries. 

Doctors were unsure if he would survive the first night.

Alyssa Bayer, Bazzy’s aunt, described the shock of seeing him in a hospital bed, saying, “It was haunting.” Despite this, Bazzy’s spirit has inspired many visitors, and hospital staff are amazed by the outpouring of support. 

His family eagerly anticipates his recovery, hoping he will soon play with his cousins again.

To support Bazzy’s recovery, his godmother, Ryan Brown, started a GoFundMe. 

The family continues to seek answers about the incident and advocates for safer streets in the Bay Area. 

They ask the community to keep Bazzy in their thoughts.
