57-Year-Old Woman Fatally Injured in Pedestrian Crash on Fourth Avenue
CHULA VISTA, CA (May 21, 2018) – A homeless woman was fatally injured when struck by a car on Thursday evening, as she was pushing a shopping cart across an intersection.
The woman was identified as 57-year-old Barbara Jean Johnson. She was struck at 9:13 PM at Fourth Avenue and C Street, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. Witnesses stated that Johnson was crossing the street against a red light, and the driver of the Pontiac sedan that struck was driving at a green light.
Johnson had no pulse when emergency crews arrived and medics were unable to revive her on the way to the hospital. She was transported to University of California San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center in Hillcrest, where she was pronounced dead less than 40 minutes later.
The Pontiac’s driver remained at the scene after the crash and was cooperative with the investigation. Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be involved in the collision. No additional information has been disclosed.
