Speeding Pickup Truck Rear-Ends Semi Truck on Highway 99 in Bakersfield, One Fatality Reported
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 7, 2019) – A 47-year-old Delano man was killed following a high-speed rear-end crash Thursday morning in Bakersfield.
The crash happened around 5:48 a.m. on southbound Highway 99 at 7th Standard Road.
CHP officials said a Toyota pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed with it slammed into the back of a semi truck.
Responding emergency crews located the Toyota lodged underneath the semi and the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending notification of his family members.
The driver of the semi truck was not injured.
Alcohol and/or drugs were not being ruled out as factors in the crash, but CHP officials suspect distracted driving may have contributed.
Further investigation is underway.
