Fatal Crash at Junction of Highway 58 and Highway 99
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 28, 2018) – One person was killed and another one was severely injured following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on a transition road in Bakersfield.
The fatal crash happened around 1:14 p.m. on westbound Highway 58, just North of Highway 99.
According to the CHP, two vehicles were involved in a non-injury crash in the tunnel of the transition road. The two drivers had exited their vehicles to exchange insurance information when a Ford F-550 hit them.
The driver of the Ford pickup truck reportedly made an unsafe lane change and sideswiped a Toyota Tundra in the first lane. The impact caused the Ford to crash into the two victims.
One of the victims was killed in the crash, while the other was taken to Kern Medical Center with a broken arm and possible internal injuries. Their identities were not immediately available.
The collision caused a closure at the interchange for several hours. All lanes were re-opened around 5:24 p.m.
Alcohol and/or drugs were not being ruled out as factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
