Fatality Reported in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Mile Marker 228.4
Sullivan, MO (August 12, 2024) – Bailey Snider, 25, of Rolla, Chelsea Smith, 32, of Steelville, and a 5-year-old, were killed in an Interstate 44 collision Saturday night.
It was about 9:30 p.m. when the fatal five-vehicle collision happened at mile marker 228.4. Troopers said the involved vehicles were three big rigs and two cars.
According to the investigating officers one of the big rigs approached stopped traffic and struck a 2008 Toyota Avalon driven by Snider that led into to a chain-reaction.
Responding officers declared Rolla, Smith, and the 5-year-old passenger deceased at the scene while an injured man was transported to the hospital.
The vehicles sustained extensive damages, with most of them being towed from the crash scene.
The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
