21-Year-Old Woman Fatally Injured after High-Speed Accident near the Ostrander Exit
KELSO, WA (April 7, 2018)– A high-speed rollover collision on Interstate 5 took the life of a woman and injured three others, on Saturday night.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash happened at around 8:20 PM. A 1997 Ford F350 pickup, driven by Austin Smith, was traveling south on Interstate 5 when a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro struck it. There were three other 21-year-old passengers in the truck including Bailey Dixon, Sarah Keele, and Lukas Brown.
The driver of the Chevy, 21-year-old Enrico Tipton, overtook a 2011 Subaru Legacy at a high rate of speed before hitting the pickup, causing Smith to swerve off the road and roll several times near Ostrander exit.
All four occupants of the pickup were rushed to St. John Medical Center for treatment. Dixon succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead, early Sunday morning around 2:15 AM, after being transferred to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. Smith, Keele, and Brown were successfully treated and released on Sunday.
State Patrol reported that Dixon was the only occupant not secured in a seatbelt during the collision.
Tipton and the Subaru driver, 36-year-old Olivia Saavedra, were reportedly unharmed from the crash.
Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision. Investigation for the case is ongoing, but WSP stated that they are looking at it as a possible vehicular assault and vehicular homicide case.
No other information is available at the moment.
