1 Dead in Kansas City Auto Accident on MO 116 near Lathrop
KANSAS CITY, MO (July 17, 2024) – Thursday, 22-year-old Ayrika Ross of Rayton died in a horrific single-vehicle crash on MO 116 near Lathrop.
The incident happened on MO 116, three miles east of Lathrop.
Officers said that two children sustained serious injuries in the crash. Moreover, the crash happened as the driver of a Dodge Charger drove westbound on MO 116 and tried to pass another vehicle.
The driver of the Charger lost control, veering off the south side of the roadway before overcorrecting to the north side. The vehicle struck a private driveway and ditch, sending it airborne.
The Charger came to a stop on its driver’s side, facing west, off the north side of the roadway.
The driver, identified as N. Ross, was taken to Liberty Hospital by Caldwell County EMS and was declared dead shortly after 1:30 a.m.
Two children, ages 7 and 8, were also taken to Liberty Hospital by Tri-County EMS with serious injuries.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported that Ross was not wearing a safety device and confirmed that the Charger was totaled in the crash. It is unknown if the two children were wearing safety devices.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
