Pedestrian Accident on Swift Avenue Kills Pregnant Autum Frank
Fresno, CA (August 3, 2020) – On Sunday, a pregnant 19-year-old woman, Autum Frank of Fresno, died in a pedestrian accident on Marks and Swift Avenue.
Frank was walking with her family and friends near Marks Avenue at around 10:30 PM. Just then, an SUV driven by 32-year-old Kenneth Carter on a fast speed down Marks Avenue hit her as she tried to get off the roadway.
Both Frank and her unborn child died at the scene.
Kenneth Carter drove away from the scene in his rented SUV, but he later called the Fresno Police Department and turned himself in. He told the police that he thought it was an animal he struck on the road.
The authorities booked Carter into the Fresno County Jail for felony hit and run, vehicular manslaughter, and for driving on a suspended license.
Police released him on $12,000 bail on Monday morning.
Fresno Sheriff’s Department said Frank’s death was the 34th death this year out of 32 collisions in Fresno in 2020. There is already a total of 16 pedestrian fatalities this year compared to only 11 last year and 25 fatal collisions.
