Man Dies After Crash on Highway 152 in Merced

Merced, CA (August 22, 2024) – On Thursday, a man died in a crash on Highway 152.

Reportedly, a man walking in front of a Volvo with his arms spread wide was hit and killed in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

At around 2:25 a.m., CHP officers responded to an incident on Highway 152, west of Volta Road.

Investigators reported that the driver of a 2016 Volvo three-axle truck, pulling a box trailer, was traveling westbound on Highway 152 at 55 mph when the man walked into the lane directly in front of the truck with his arms spread wide.

The front of the Volvo struck the pedestrian, resulting in fatal injuries. 

The pedestrian was subsequently struck multiple times by passing vehicles.

The man died at the scene, and according to CHP, drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
