Fatal ATV Collision near Freedom Boulevard, Nicholas Zier Arrested
APTOS, CA (September 30, 2018) – An Australian woman was killed in an ATV crash on Redwood Heights Road, Saturday evening. Her identity was not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 11:45 PM, near Freedom Boulevard.
29-year-old Nicholas Zier of Portola Valley was driving the ATV on Redwood Heights with two passengers with him, the Australian woman and another 29-year-old man. For an unknown reason, the ATV overturned, ejecting all three occupants onto the road.
The woman, said to be in her mid-20’s, was found unresponsive. The two men performed CPR until friends came to drive them to the house on the property. CHP, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputies, AMR, and Aptos Fire met the group at the house. Despite life-saving efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Zier was arrested for felony DUI after being treated for minor injuries. He is booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail. No further details have been disclosed to the public at this time.
