Passenger Dies in Early Morning Crash at 43rd Avenue and Van Buren Street
PHOENIX, AZ (August 22, 2019) – A passenger was killed following a two-car crash early Thursday morning in Phoenix.
According to police, the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Van Buren Street.
A 1997 Mazda Miata was traveling south on 43rd Avenue when the 27-year-old driver attempted to turn left into a business driveway and was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe on the passenger side.
As a result, the passenger in the Miata died at the scene. Phoenix police identified him as 18-year-old Austin Shute.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the Miata’s driver to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Tahoe driver, a 45-year-old woman, was uninjured.
The investigation of this crash is still underway.
