San Diego Police Officer Austin Machitar Killed in Collision on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard [San Diego, CA]

San Diego, CA (August 28, 2024) – San Diego police officer Austin Machitar was killed in a pursuit crash on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard late Monday night.

It was about 11:30 p.m. when the fatal collision happened in of 5200 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.

SDPD officers said a vehicle was observed speeding down the road, prompting the authorities to attempt a traffic stop.

However, the vehicle did not yield, so the officers started a chase. A supervisor called off the chase but the suspect’s vehicle crashed into the side of a patrol car with officers Austin Machitar and Zach Martinez inside. 

Also, several other civilian vehicles also became entangled in the collision.

Officer Austin Machitar and the suspect were both pronounced dead at the scene. 

Officer Zach Martinez was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.

No other injuries have been reported in this accident.

Meanwhile, CHP is still investigating this collision. No further information have been provided at this time.
