22-Year-Old Salinas Man Fatally Injured in Rear-End Collision near Hebert Road

SALINAS, CA (August 8, 2018) – One man was killed Wednesday after a car crash on San Juan Grade Road. He was later identified as 22-year-old Arturo Vega Jr of Salinas.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Vega was driving his Infiniti G37 northbound on San Juan Grade Road in heavy fog when it struck the right rear of a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Emergency personnel arrived at the crash site and pronounced Vega dead at the scene. His passenger, a 17-year-old boy, suffered minor lacerations to his face and the driver of the pick-up was uninjured. He remained at the scene and cooperated with officials during their investigation, and was able to drive away from the scene afterward.

Preliminary investigation shows that Vega was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Authorities are unsure whether or not drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal incident. The fog contributed to a limited visibility of just 200 feet at a time.

The accident remains under investigation at this time, and no additional information has been released to the public.

We send our prayers to the family and friends of Arturo Vega Jr. May he rest in peace. We wish his loved ones strength and comfort during this trying time.
