2 People Dead after Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Maria

Santa Maria, CA (January 15, 2024) – On December 30, Arnol Hernandez Zuniga and Adrian Rojas-Ramirez died in a crash on Highway 101.

Santa Maria firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers responded to the crash scene on northbound Highway 101 near the North Broadway interchange at 11:30 p.m.

According to CHP emergency dispatch reports, the collision involved a wrong-way car, and the wreckage blocked the lanes under the North Broadway overpass. 

Both vehicles emitted smoke after the crash, necessitating heavy extrication efforts to remove some victims, as per emergency dispatch reports.

Due to debris and the ongoing collision investigation, all three northbound lanes were blocked. Authorities diverted northbound traffic off the highway at Donovan Road, and the northbound Donovan Road entrance ramp was also closed. 

Emergency crews anticipated the freeway closure to last several hours, as estimated early Sunday.

The victims of this Santa Maria crash were identified as Arnol Hernandez Zuniga and Adrian Rojas-Ramirez, both age 30.
