DeSoto Hit-and-Run Crash Under Investigation
Dallas County, TX (June 24, 2024) – 21-year-old Areauna Laws of DeSoto was killed following an Interstate 20 collision Sunday morning.
It was about 5:01 a.m. when the fatal crash happened on the westbound freeway near Matlock Road in DeSoto.
Responding officers located Laws lying unresponsive in the roadway and declared her deceased.
Moreover, witnesses said they saw a pickup truck driving erratically in the westbound lanes just before the collision. The pickup was also seen driving on the shoulder.
Troopers determined Laws had pulled over due to car trouble. She was standing outside her when the pickup collided with her and her car.
The pickup driver continued driving and crossed the grassy median toward the Interstate 20 frontage road.
The authorities later tracked the abandoned pickup in a nearby shopping center parking lot.
Officers are locating the driver.
