20-Year-Old Woman Dead after a Collision near Buena Vista Avenue
GILROY, CA (March 17, 2018) – A crash on US Highway 101 took the life of a 20-year-old woman, on Saturday morning. The victim was confirmed to be Anyssa Lopez, a Hollister resident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 8 AM. Lopez was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer at a high speed when it lost control and hit a 2017 Hyundai Elantra that was in front of the vehicle. After the collision with the Elantra, the Explorer rolled into an embankment, ejecting Lopez.
The victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three passengers in the Ford were taken to the Regional Medical Center for treatment and evaluation of their injuries. The Elantra’s driver was reportedly unharmed in the collision.
The CHP noted that the combination of the “cloudy, raining, and wet” weather and Lopez’s driving speed might be a factor in the crash. No other information is available at this point in time.
A GoFundMe page was set-up to help with funeral expenses. Click on the link to donate to Lopez’s family.
We offer our sincerest sympathies to Anyssa Lopez’s family and friends. May they find comfort in this difficult time.
