Elderly Man Died and Driver Arrested after Hit-and-Run Crash in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (February 1, 2018) – An elderly man was killed in a fatal hit-and-run collision on Ashlan Avenue near Cedar Avenue in Fresno, on Thursday morning around 6:30 AM.
The Fresno Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 72-year-old Antonio Ybarra of Fresno. It is suspected that Ybarra was walking outside of the crosswalk on Ashlan Avenue and may have been returning from buying coffee at a nearby store, right before the incident. Spilled coffee and the victim’s shoes were found at the crash site.
The driver, 37-year-old Randy Ouch of Fresno, is in custody on felony hit-and-run charges.
Lt. Mark Hudson reported that Ouch hit the victim while driving eastbound in the right lane on Ashlan Ave. Ouch made a U-turn and returned about 20 minutes later in another vehicle. He remained at the scene and was questioned for about an hour before he was taken into custody by detectives.
Authorities closed off eastbound Ashlan from Ninth Street to Cedar Avenue while an investigation took place.
