Napa 4-Vehicle Crash on Highway 121 Injures Anthony Silva and Patrick Heeneman
NAPA, CA (May 24, 2019) – Two motorcycle riders suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 121 late Wednesday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred north of Vichy Avenue and involved four vehicles.
The injured motorcyclists were 27-year-old Modesto resident Anthony Silva and 31-year-old Brentwood resident Patrick Heeneman.
Silva was driving a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and the second rider in a tight group of motorcyclists. On the other hand, Heeneman was on a 2007 KTM motorcycle. He had some following distance behind the last rider in the group.
An investigation determined that Silva and Heeneman were traveling at 35 miles per hour northbound on Highway 121, north of Vichy Avenue. They were passing through an ascending right curve on motorcycles.
Meanwhile, 46-year-old Mikael Peters of Martinsville, Virginia, and 70-year-old James Reed of Napa were driving in separate cars. They were coming south around the corner toward the riders on a descending right curve, as per CHP.
As he navigated the curve, Silva began to cross the double lines. Subsequently, he attempted to lean back into his lane but was unsuccessful. At the same time, Peters was approaching in his 2018 Ford. Silva hit Peters’ driver-side mirror and scraped along the left side of his car. Silva’s bike then overturned and hit Peters’ rear tire.
Moreover, Silva and his bike slid and struck the right underside of the bumper of Reed’s 2015 GMC as Reed came to a stop. Silva continued to slide. His bike stopped in the southbound lane, while Silva stopped in the northbound lane.
Heeneman couldn’t stop because he was driving too fast. He laid his bike down in the lane and waited for medical help. Silva did the same.
Silva was seriously hurt, while Heeneman suffered minor injuries. They were both taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center.
No one was arrested in relation to the multi-vehicle crash, according to CHP.
Motorcyclists are at great risk so it is important you are aware of them on the road. Always make sure it is safe to make a lane change. Scanning the streets, the next lane over, and using your mirrors can help you be more aware. Avoid accidents at all costs by driving defensively.
