Anthony Hanzel Arrested in Fatal Traffic Crash on Moody Street [La Palma, CA]

La Palma, CA (December 20, 2024) On Wednesday afternoon, 40-year-old Anthony Hanzel of Anaheim was arrested after a tragic crash on Walker Street.

According to La Palma police, the deadly crash happened at about 12:50 p.m. at the intersection of La Palma Avenue and Moody Street.

Reports say that a woman lost her life in a multi-vehicle collision caused by a driver fleeing from police in Orange County.

Authorities say that the pursuit began when officers saw Hanzel committing a theft near North Gilbert Street and West Malvern Avenue in Fullerton. Hanzel drove away in a white Nissan Rogue, initiating the chase.

Officials say that Hanzel was involved in a non-injury crash near Brookhurst Road and Orangethorpe Avenue as he tried to escape. He continued fleeing onto the westbound 91 Freeway, then exited at Knott Avenue, where officers lost sight of him.

La Palma police resumed the pursuit after spotting Hanzel near La Palma Avenue and Walker Street. At about 12:50 p.m., he ran a red light at the intersection of La Palma Avenue and Moody Street, colliding with a blue BMW.

The woman driving the BMW, in her 60s, suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Her identity has not been released.

Hanzel was taken to the hospital with injuries and faces charges including petty theft, hit-and-run, and felony evading.
