1 Dead in Tacoma Auto Accident on Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord
TACOMA, WA (February 19, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, 52-year-old Angelica Roberto Campos died in a brutal wrong-way crash on Interstate 5.
The incident occurred at about 3:38 a.m. on Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
According to the report, a 40-year-old Arlington man drove a southbound 2001 Acura in the northbound lanes. Then, he crashed into a 2011 Nissan with two people from Puyallup inside, officials said.
As a result, the 48-year-old Puyallup man, driver, and 52-year-old Campos, sustained injuries and were taken to hospitals. However, Campos succumbed to her injuries after being taken to the Madigan Army Medical Center. Meanwhile, the man was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center and his condition is unknown.
Also, reports confirmed that the 40-year-old wrong-way driver from Arlington is facing DUI and vehicular homicide charges.
The crash also totaled both vehicles. Meanwhile, a portion of I-5 was shut down for three hours and 34 minutes while officials processed the crash scene.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
