The Orland High School bus was eastbound on South Avenue approaching Kirkwood Road with a Honda delivery van behind. The bus stopped at the railroad tracks just before Kirkwood Road.
The delivery van behind driven by Mitchell stopped and waited for the bus to continue.
As the bus turned left onto Kirkwood Road, Mitchell drove into the westbound lane of South Avenue and rear-ended the school bus.
As a result, Mitchell sustained broken leg while Castillo, his passenger, incurred minor injuries. The paramedics rushed them to a hospital.
Moreover, officers say there were 26 students on the bus. The paramedics evaluated seven students but no students were transported to the hospital. They were taken back to Orland High School.
While it is true, that driving is essential for many in order to move about in their lives, it is one of the most dangerous activities performed daily.
That is why paying attention to the road while behind the wheel plays a big part in making sure we arrive safely at our destination.
Preventing Injury Collision
It is indeed crucial that everyone drives defensively in order to avoid traffic accidents as much as possible.
Meanwhile, here are some of the things that we can do to practice defensive driving:
- Always drive at a controllable speed.
- Never assume you know the other driver’s intention.
- Be prepared to positively react to other drivers.
- Yield at intersections, even if you have right of way.
- Stay focused on the road. Remove all distractions such as mobile phone use, unstrapped toddlers, etc.
