Mother and Child Killed in Missouri City Vehicle Collision
Missouri City, TX (June 22, 2024) – 53-year-old Angela Stewart and 16-year-old Mason Stewart were killed in a vehicle crash on Cartwright Road Thursday night.
The traffic accident happened before 9 p.m. in the 16-1700 block area.
Troopers said an officer received a call of a robbery in progress at an ATM in the 1600 block of Cartwright.
A man armed with a handgun approached a victim and robbed them of $200 and fled in a silver Honda Civic. The robbery victim followed the suspect while reporting to 911 officers.
As the responding officer was eastbound in the 16-1700 block of Cartwright Road, when at the same time, Mason Stewarts drove out of a Dollar Tree parking lot.
Unfortunately, the patrol car T-boned the vehicle occupied by Mason and his mother, Angele.
Mason and Angela were killed at the crash scene. Their relatives said it was Mason’s 16th birthday and he had just got his driving license when the collision happened.
Moreover, hours after the fatal collision, a person was located in the back of the officers’ car. Rescuers pulled him out of the cruiser to give him aid.
The patrol officer driving the patrol car was unable to explain why there was person in the patrol car and why it took so long to discover the person was there.
Later on, the rescuers rushed the officer to a hospital in the Texas Medical Center while the person in the patrol car was transported to Ben Taub Hospital.
Offices are investigating whether the involved officer had on his cruiser’s lights and sirens before at the time of the crash.
An investigation is also underway into the ATM robbery. Anyone with information in that case is asked to call the Missouri City Police Department at 281-403-8700.
