Andy Fonseca Dead after Auburn American River Incident
AUBURN, CA (March 20, 2019) — A man who fell into the American River while taking photos with his fiancée was found dead.
Placer County swift-water dive team and air operations unit recovered the body of 23-year-old Andy Odon Ortega Fonseca, of Sacramento, on Monday.
Fonseca fell in the North Fork American River confluence near No Hands Bridge at about 7 p.m. Sunday. He was unable to get out of the swift-moving water, according to Lt. Andrew Scott.
First responders called off the search at about 9 p.m. Sunday because of the darkness.
The Sheriff’s Office’s swift-water rescue team and air operations unit continued the search Monday, scouring the area from the confluence to Folsom Lake.
Officials did not state where they found Fonseca’s body.
