Andrey Varkentin Arrested in Mount Baker Highway DUI Crash [Bellingham, WA]

Bellingham, WA (April 29, 2022) On Thursday, 37-year-old Andrey Varkentin from Maple Falls was arrested for a suspected DUI on Mount Baker Highway.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) says that at around 12:55 a.m. Varkentin’s 2001 Toyota Highlander crashed head-on with a 2017 Volkswagen Golf near milepost 16.

Reports say that the Toyota crossed the center line into the opposite lane.

The 46-year-old Volkswagen driver from Maple Falls attempted to avoid the Toyota but the two vehicles collided head-on and ended up down an embankment.

Paramedics took both Varkentin and the Volkswagen driver to St. Joseph’s hospital in Bellingham.

Troopers arrested Varkentin and booked him into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of DUI and vehicular assault.
