MERCED COUNTY, CA (October 20. 2020) – On Sunday, authorities arrested Andres Salinassaucedo after a crash on El Capitan Way and Santa Fe Drive.
CHP acting Sgt. Mark Frost said that a 2011 Mercedes-Benz C300 traveled east on El Capitan Way, west of Santa Fe Drive. 20-year-old driver Andres Salinassaucedo of Atwater drove at a speed of about 30 to 40 mph. Then, he went over the center line and crashed head-on with a Chevrolet 3500 pickup towing a flatbed trailer. Furthermore, the trailer was driven by 39-year-old Nicolas Torres of Livingston.
Officers performed a limited field sobriety test on the Mercedes-Benz driver, Andres Salinassaucedo. Moreover, he sustained moderate to major injuries during the crash.
Thus, responders airlifted him to a Modesto-area hospital. Meanwhile, the authorities placed Salinassaucedo under arrest after the officers determined him to be under the influence.
On the other hand, Torres only suffered minor injuries and refused treatment following the crash.
Furthermore, the incident remains under active investigation of the CHP.
Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the most dangerous things you can do as a driver. Always remember that operating a vehicle under controlled substance can lead to devastating consequences. Also, if you find yourself unable to safely operate a vehicle, there are always other options for transportation.
