Fatal Pedestrian Crash at Baseline Street and Crestview Avenue
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (December 23, 2019) – A bicyclist was hit and killed by a vehicle Monday afternoon at an intersection in San Bernardino.
The crash happened around 4:16 p.m. at Baseline Street and Crestview Avenue.
CHP officials said a Mercury Sable was traveling west on Baseline Street, approaching the intersection at Crestview Avenue.
As the driver approached the intersection, a bicyclist rode his bike southeast across Baseline at Crestview. He then rode through crossing traffic and was hit by the Mercury.
As a result, the bicyclist suffered severe injuries. Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital, where he later died.
Authorities identified the victim as Andres Moreno, 87, of San Bernardino.
The driver of the Sable, 80-year-old Harlean Byers, stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Police said neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Andres Moreno during this time of grief.
