Maria Diaz De Benitez and Andres Cabrales Killed in Benton County Crash
Benton County, WA (July 02, 2021) – On Thursday, 54-year-old Andres Cabrales of Hermiston and 63-year-old Maria Diaz De Benitez of Umatilla, died in a vehicle crash on Interstate 82.
Apparently, a semi-truck driver reported the fatal accident at around 6 a.m. eight miles south of Kennewick.
Officers said De Benitez and Cabrales were headed eastbound on the freeway when the vehicle left the roadway.
De Benitez, the driver, overcorrected and hit the guardrail. Then, the vehicle flipped over the guardrail, traveled down an embankment, and rested on its top.
Unfortunately, De Benitez and her passenger, Cabrales, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
