[UPDATE] Andrea Martinez identified as Pedestrian Killed near San Tomas Expressway in Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA, CA (May 7, 2020) – Early Wednesday morning, Andrea Martinez died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 101.
According to CHP spokesman Officer Ross Lee, they first received reports of the crash at 4:12 a.m. He added that the collision involved a Chevrolet Silverado that hit a Ms. Martinez, 45, northbound on Highway 101, just south of San Tomas Expressway.
Reports indicated that witnesses first saw Andrea Martinez walking on the right-hand shoulder. Shortly after, the Silverado struck her, unable to prevent the crash.
Due to the impact of the collision, she was later pronounced dead on scene at around 4:38 a.m. Meanwhile, authorities also revealed that the driver of the Silverado remained uninjured and cooperated with officials.
Moreover, multiple lanes of Highway 101 were shut down until around 6:05 a.m. However, the roadway has since reopened.
