Big Rig and Sedan Involved in Fatal DUI Crash in Anaheim
ANAHEIM, CA (March 13, 2019) – One person was killed following a DUI crash involving a big rig and a sedan early Wednesday morning in Anaheim.
The crash happened around 2:52 a.m. on southbound 5 Freeway at Euclid Street on-ramp.
According to the CHP, a red Toyota sedan was speeding when it slammed into the back of a box truck and went underneath it. The top of the sedan was sheared off by the impact, and the box truck overturned on its side.
A passenger in the Toyota suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Information on the victim’s identity has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
The Toyota’s driver was hospitalized and believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Crews cleaned up the crash debris and truck’s load of fruit that spilled on the roadway, prompting a traffic alert on all southbound 5 Freeway for several hours.
This fatal incident remains under investigation.
