Injuries Reported in Laredo Auto Accident on Interstate 35 near Exit Ramp 4

LAREDO, TX (May 22, 2024) – Monday morning, 44-year-old Anabel Gonzalez sustained injuries in a crippling 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 35.

The crash happened just before 10:00 a.m. on the northbound lane of Interstate 35 near Exit Ramp 4.

Laredo Police have identified the crash victims involved in the crash as Gonzalez, 44, the driver of a silver Nissan March, and Monica Cornejo, 33, the driver of a gold Buick Enclave.

Reports indicate that the collision occurred in the middle lane of the northbound lanes of I-35. Authorities believe a rear driver-side tire blowout on the Nissan March may have contributed to the accident. The Buick Enclave hit the Nissan from behind, propelling the Nissan forward and causing Gonzalez to be ejected from her vehicle. Tragically, she was then dragged by her car.

Gonzalez was stabilized at Doctors Hospital and subsequently flown to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where she is expected to recover. Cornejo, the driver of the Buick, sustained less severe injuries and was also taken to the hospital. She is cooperating with the investigation, and there are no indications of intoxication.

At this time, no citations have been issued, and the investigation remains ongoing.
