Dog Suffers Injuries in Fresno County Fatal Accident
Fresno County, CA (April 20, 2023) – Just yesterday, 51-year-old Ana Ortega of Sanger lost her life in a Clinton Avenue accident.
The traffic accident happened before 8 a.m. north of Sanger.
Investigating officers Ortega was walking her dog before the crash. As she walked west down a paved roadway, she was fatally struck by a 45-year-old off-duty officer who was driving a pickup truck in the opposite direction.
The officer pulled over and performed CPR on the Ortega until the emergency team arrived.
California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Salas said, “That off-duty Clovis police department did attempt to render first aid, including CPR until he was relieved by first responders arriving at the scene.”
Unfortunately, Ortega succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Officers said the dog survived the accident and was transported to the Fresno County SPCA with major injuries.
Moreover, it has been reported that the Clovis police officer was driving in his personal vehicle during the crash and police said it does not appear the officer was speeding.
The investigating team is looking into the possibility of distracted driving. They do not suspect drugs and alcohol to be factors in this incident.
