Bellingham Woman Dies in Pedestrian Crash on 5 Freeway in Blaine
BLAINE, WA (November 16, 2019) – A woman was struck and killed by a car late Saturday afternoon on 5 Freeway in Blaine, authorities said.
The State Patrol said a Snohomish driver was heading southbound on 5 Freeway. They were approaching the Birch Bay-Lynden Road exit just after 5:00 p.m., when a female pedestrian ran across the median and into traffic. The driver then hit the woman.
The victim landed on the left shoulder of the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified her as 31-year-old Amanda Jean Mitchell of Bellingham.
The driver doesn’t face charges and troopers don’t know if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Further investigation is underway.
