Destiny Leiba Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on Highway 35

Corpus Christi, TX (December 7, 2023) On Tuesday afternoon, 24-year-old Destiny Leiba of Aransas Pass, died in a tragic crash on SH 35 that injured Amanda Hynes and her 3 children.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal wrong-way collision happened around 2:49 p.m. on State Highway 35.

Reports say that Leiba was driving a southbound 2017 Chevrolet Spark at high speed on the flyover leaving Aransas Pass and trying to get onto SH 35. Officials say that the Chevy veer off the road and when Leiba managed to correct her trajectory, her vehicle ended up in the median between the southbound and northbound lanes.

Authorities say that the Chevy went airborne and crashed into a Ford SUV, driven by Amanda Hynes with her 3 children, who are all under 5 years old.

Medics rushed the family to the hospital, Hynes and her kids sustained minor injuries and are expected to recover.

Meanwhile, Leiba was pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS are investigating the fatal wrong-way collision and have not released additional information at this time.
